Walter Hayes Memorial Lecture - Announcement

Wednesday 16 January 2008

To honour its founding Chairman, Walter Hayes, the Trust hosts this annual mid-winter lecture and dinner in the Mountbatten Room at the Royal Automobile Club in Pall Mall, London. The theme adopted is always related to current and future plans of AML and given by a senior member of the company Two years ago, it was given by David Richards who has since become Chairman of Aston Martin, and last year David King, Chief Programme Engineer, spoke to us about the development of the new DBS, and particularly its role as 'Bond's new car'. This time we welcome Marek Reichman who for the past two years has been responsible for the design and appearance of all future products. In particular the newly launched DBS Coupé and the future 4 door 'Rapide' have been occupying his attention. He will be giving us an insight into what this has involved and his lecture will be entitled 'An Emotional Journey.'

The lecture will take place following the Chairman's reception, and a dinner with wine in the fine Mountbatten Room where nevertheless places are limited. Last January's event was a sell out so don’t miss out this time. We gather at the Royal Automobile Club from 7.00pm on Wednesday 16 January and dress is lounge suits and tie. Tickets are £62.50 for Trust and RAC Members and £67.50 for their guests, whilst any surplus goes to aid the Aston Martin Heritage Trust in its work. The current Chairman, Chris Lendrum, will be updating everyone with news of progress on the archives and the restoration of our 1921 Aston Martin, 'A3'. Cheques should be made out to the Aston Martin Heritage Trust and sent to the Trust headquarters at the address found in the contacts section of this website, marked for the attention of Anne Wright.

Dudley Coram Memorial Lecture - Report

On a fine sunny September afternoon, Andy Bell's lecture on the 1.5 litre Aston Martins built by 'Bert' and 'Harry' Bertelli from 1927 to 1937 proved a popular success, having a sell-out audience at the Barn. The talk was well researched and constructed and provoked some interesting questions afterwards. It was very nice that Bert Bertelli’s son Bill was there to hear it. He, and all visitors, could study the displays and memorabilia inside the Barn including the rebuilt engine of 'A3', the oldest Aston Martin known to exist. The Trust also displayed the 2/4 seater Ulster Aston which was bequeathed to the Club. Other Bertelli Astons brought for display at the event came courtesy of Richard Ashmead (LM4), Jim and Bruce Young (ex-TT 2 seater Le Mans), Charles Trevelyan (LM14 team car), and Nick Mason (LM18 team car). The Trustees were grateful to them all, also to Andy Bell and all who came to this annual event which was first established in 1976.

Attendees will know that difficulty was experienced with the accompanying slide show equipment, which naturally enough had performed faultlessly up until the moment the lecture had started! With this new improved website, we have now been able to post the images for you to see here. Dudley Coram gallery
